The Types Of Ballroom Dancing
We Specialize In International Standard Ballroom
International ballroom is one of two “schools” of ballroom dancing, now regulated by the World Dance Council (WDC) and the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF). There are a few differences between Standard ballroom and American Smooth from the American “school” of ballroom dancing. While both styles share some similar dances, such as waltz and tango, there are differences in technique, styling, and allowed figures. American Smooth allows more open and separated positions between partners, while International Ballroom emphasizes proper technique, including precise foot placement, and clear communication between leader and follower through a strong connection and frame.
Although our instructors are experienced in both schools and its respective dances, at DQ Ballroom and Fitness we dedicate our group classes to the Standard ballroom dances from the International school.
