Common Questions
The questions we hear most from new students.
Can I start learning Viennese Waltz without any prior experience?expand_more
Yes. You don't need any prior dance experience to join a beginner Viennese Waltz class. We cover the fundamentals of partner hold and movement from the start, and you'll be turning within your first few lessons.
Is Viennese Waltz a good wedding first dance?expand_more
Yes. Viennese Waltz is a beautiful wedding first dance. Many popular songs have a Viennese Waltz feel, and the fast, sweeping rotation makes for a stunning moment on the floor. With a few weeks of lessons, couples can feel confident and look polished.
Do I need a partner?expand_more
You don't need a partner to sign up. We encourage you to join with a partner (practicing together outside of class makes a real difference), but if you come on your own, we'll pair you up with someone during the lesson. Everyone is welcome.
How is Viennese Waltz different from Slow Waltz?expand_more
Slow Waltz is danced at roughly 30 beats per minute with rise-and-fall and a wide figure vocabulary. Viennese Waltz is much faster, around 60 measures per minute (about 180 beats per minute), uses continuous rotation, and has a smaller core figure set. We teach both at DQ.
