Foxtrot Dance Classes In Ottawa
Foxtrot With Style
Foxtrot dance classes at DQ Ballroom & Fitness Ottawa teach the smoothest of the five Standard ballroom dances, with long gliding steps and a slow-quick-quick rhythm. Beginner and intermediate group classes cover the basic walks, three-step, feather step, and other figures used in social and competitive ballroom worldwide.

Foxtrot Dance Classes For Beginners
Glide With Confidence
Beginner Foxtrot classes teach the closed hold, the basic walking step, the three-step, the feather step, the reverse turn, and the natural weave. The slow-quick-quick rhythm is forgiving for new dancers, which is why Foxtrot is often the second ballroom dance students learn after Waltz.

Common Questions
The questions we hear most from new students.
Is Foxtrot easy for beginners?expand_more
With just a few basic figures, you can confidently dance to a full Foxtrot song from your very first classes. The slow-quick-quick rhythm gives you time to think, and the closed hold makes it easy to follow your partner, which is why Foxtrot is a popular choice for anyone stepping onto the ballroom floor.
What music is Foxtrot danced to?expand_more
Classic Foxtrot is danced to big-band jazz and crooner songs in 4/4 time at roughly 30 beats per minute. Modern Foxtrot tracks include slower pop ballads as long as the underlying tempo and structure fit.
Is Foxtrot a good wedding first dance?expand_more
Yes. Foxtrot fits big-band, crooner, and many slower modern songs. The smooth gliding character looks polished without demanding complex choreography, which makes it a popular choice for weddings.
Do I need a partner?expand_more
You don't need a partner to sign up. We encourage you to join with a partner (practicing together outside of class makes a real difference), but if you come on your own, we'll pair you up with someone during the lesson. Everyone is welcome.
