Waltz Dance Classes In Ottawa
Waltz With Elegance
Waltz dance classes at DQ Ballroom & Fitness Ottawa run as beginner and intermediate International Standard Waltz, danced in 3/4 time with rise-and-fall technique. It is one of the most forgiving Standard ballroom dances and a popular wedding first dance.

Common Questions
The questions we hear most from new students.
Is Waltz a good first ballroom dance to learn?expand_more
Yes. Waltz is the most forgiving Standard dance because the tempo is slow and the basic figures use a closed hold.
Is the Waltz a good wedding first dance?expand_more
It is the most popular wedding first dance for a reason. Slow Waltz fits a wide range of romantic songs, the rise-and-fall makes the dance look polished without complex choreography, and a few weeks of class is enough to look confident on the floor.
How is Slow Waltz different from Viennese Waltz?expand_more
Slow Waltz is danced at roughly 30 beats per minute with rise-and-fall and a wide figure vocabulary. Viennese Waltz is much faster, around 60 measures per minute (about 180 beats per minute), uses constant rotation, and has a smaller core vocabulary. We teach both at DQ.
Do I need a partner?expand_more
You don't need a partner to sign up. We encourage you to join with a partner (practicing together outside of class makes a real difference), but if you come on your own, we'll pair you up with someone during the lesson. Everyone is welcome.
