Frequently Asked

Common Questions

The questions we hear most from new students.

Is Cha Cha a good first Latin dance to learn?expand_more

Yes. Cha Cha is the friendliest entry into Latin dance because the rhythm is easy to count and the basic step is forgiving. Our beginner Cha Cha classes focus on the basic, the underarm turn, and the New Yorker so you can hold a social dance after a handful of classes.

What will I learn in a beginner Cha Cha class?expand_more

Forward and Back Cha Cha Chas, Spot Turns, New Yorks, the basics of leading and following, and how to style your movements. We break each figure down with a partner and walk you through it slowly with the music before putting it together.

How is Cha Cha different from the other dances we teach?expand_more

Compared to Rumba (much slower, long deliberate steps) and Salsa (looser timing, bigger travel), Cha Cha is sharp and syncopated with small, fast footwork. It is International Latin, danced on a strict count. We teach Cha Cha alongside Rumba, Samba, Jive, and Paso Doble as part of the full Latin program.

Do I need a partner to take Cha Cha classes?expand_more

You don't need a partner to sign up. We encourage you to join with a partner — practicing together outside of class makes a real difference — but if you come on your own, we'll pair you up with someone during the lesson. Everyone is welcome.
