Salsa Rueda Dance Classes In Ottawa

Cuban Salsa In A Circle

Salsa Rueda dance classes at DQ Ballroom & Fitness Ottawa teach the Cuban Rueda de Casino style: couples form a circle, a caller calls moves, and partners rotate on cue. It is the most social Latin dance we teach, with no partner required and a steadily-built call vocabulary across the series.

Salsa Rueda Classes For Beginners

Learn The Calls

Beginner Salsa Rueda teaches the basic Cuban step, the Cross Body Lead, the Dame (partner change), the Dile Que No, the Enchufla, the Vacila, and the Setenta. The hardest part for new dancers is reacting fast to the caller, so we build the call vocabulary one move at a time.

Salsa Rueda Classes For Intermediate Dancers

Build The Rueda

Intermediate Salsa Rueda expands the call vocabulary to Setenta Complicado, Adios, Coca-Cola, Sombrero, and Festival. We work on speed of response, partnership timing on rotations, and the floor craft that keeps a busy circle from collapsing on itself.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions

The questions we hear most from new students.

Is Salsa Rueda the same as regular salsa?expand_more

No. Salsa Rueda is Cuban-style salsa danced in a circle with multiple couples rotating partners on a caller's cue. LA Salsa is linear and danced one couple at a time. Both are taught at DQ as separate classes.

Do I need to bring a partner to Salsa Rueda?expand_more

No. Salsa Rueda is built on partner rotation, so the format works perfectly when everyone comes solo. Coming with a partner is fine too, but you will dance with everyone in the room.

How fast do you build the call vocabulary?expand_more

Beginner classes introduce one to two new calls each session and recap the previous calls every class. By the end of a beginner series most students can react to roughly fifteen calls without hesitation.

Should I learn LA Salsa before Rueda?expand_more

Not required. Many students start with Rueda and find the social rotation accelerates their learning. Others prefer LA Salsa first because the linear basic is more forgiving. We teach both and many students take them together.
